Just this morning, I shared the link to the story in the New York Times about the propaganda campaign that the Pentagon has used for everything from defending the use of Guantanamo Bay to keeping us in Iraq.
Now, I am asking you to take action and demand that Congress launch a full investigation into the use of propaganda and whether or not any illegal action has occurred. As taxpayers and citizens we have the right to know whether or not the government is telling the truth or whether it is all lies. The campaign season will be in full swing before we know it, so the time to act is yesterday. Follow this link and make your voice heard today!

It should come as no surprise that the so-called "war on terror" has been backed by one of the most sophisticated marketing campaigns ever.
I have often talked about the level of propaganda that the Bush administration has used to further viewpoints that simply don't add up in the light of the facts. Now that we are in the final months of the Bush administration, the facts are finally being allowed to come forward. Independent media have been talking about this for much longer, and now the mainstream media have finally been let out of their corporate cages to begin whispering the same information. The article below ran in Sunday's New York Times, and while it is long, it should be required reading for everybody who takes democracy seriously. If this doesn't piss you off, I wonder what will... As always, I welcome comments. The Pentagon has cultivated “military
analysts? in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the Bush
administration’s wartime performance.

To my listeners/readers: On Friday night, in a national television interview on ABC News, President Bush directly admitted that the White House was deeply involved in decisions about the CIA’s use of torture. Recent reports indicate that members of the Bush administration including Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell and George Tenet met regularly and approved the CIA’s use of “combined? “enhanced? interrogation techniques -- tactics that amount to torture. I just demanded that my members of Congress support strenuous efforts, including the appointment of an independent prosecutor, to hold President Bush, Vice-President Cheney and other high-ranking officials accountable for their role in crafting torture policy. I thought you would like to know about this and would also want to do something about it. To take action, just follow the link below.

With all of this talk about protecting democracy in other parts of the world, we also have a responsibility to ensure that it does not get stolen from us in our own communities. The following letter from Voters For Peace underscores the responsibility we all have as voters in this country. I am encouraging you to join me and others in calling for Congress to mandate voter-verified paper copies of all votes cast on touch-screen voting machines. This is one of the many ways we can make change happen in our world. Make it happen!
Paper Ballots and Audits in Time for Election Day 2008! Tell Your Congressional Rep. to Vote for HR 5036 "The Emergency Election Assistance for Secure Elections Act" Americans need to be able to trust the counting of the vote on Election Day. Paperless electronic voting is rife with computer mistakes and security problems. Only 17 states have a voter verified paper record and require an audit. With no paper record it is impossible to audit the vote and we cannot be sure the vote was counted accurately. Peace voters can only have an impact if we are sure our votes are counted as they are cast. On Tuesday, April 15, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a bill that will help ensure election integrity in time for the November 2008 by providing funds to states for voter-verified paper records and audits of the vote on Election Day. Please send the letter below to your member of Congress IMMEDIATELY. CLICK HERE to send the letter from the website of an allied organization TrueVote. The U.S. House of Representatives needs to show overwhelming bi-partisan support for this bill so the Senate will quickly act and President Bush will sign the bill. - - - - - - - - - Dear Representative: I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 5036 when it comes to the House Floor this Tuesday. The 'Emergency Election Assistance for Secure Elections Act' - the "EASY" bill - is needed to secure the November 2008 elections. Broad support in the House will ensure passage by the Senate and approval by the president in time for the November election. H.R. 5036 will provide states with funding for paper-based voting systems and audits of the vote count. The bill will assure election integrity nationally by making sure that votes are counted in a transparent and audit-able way. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. - - - - - - - - - CLICK HERE to send the letter. (You can edit the letter when you do so.) Thank you for taking the time to help improve the election integrity of elections in the United States. PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Counting the vote right in a way people can trust is the foundation of legitimate government. Sincerely, Kevin Zeese Executive Director
