According to reports at CBS, Darlene Conley died on January 14, 2007 at age 72. Known best for her colorful, flashy, and flamboyant character, Sally Spectra on CBS' daytime soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful, Mrs. Conley had a lengthy career in radio, movies, and television. It has not been decided how her character will be written out of the program yet (please let the character be written out, and in a dignified manner...). (Courtesy of CBS.com) On a personal note, The Bold and the Beautiful was one of my favorite soap operas, and Mrs. Conley's character was one of my absolute favorites. Between the hair, the heavy makeup, the flashy clothes, and her bombast ways, she was every bit the fag hag. In fact, I could easily picture Sally in a gay piano bar belting out show tunes to a grateful crowd. As a character, Sally was always stirring up trouble, especially ensuring she stayed the thorn in Stephanie Forrester's flesh. Their verbal sparring ranked right up there with Alexis and Krystal, sometimes resulting in mild violence. A particularly memorable scene featured a heated exchange between the two in Milan, ending when Stephanie shoved Sally into a body of water, conjuring up memories of a certain waterborne slugfest between Dynasty's resident divas. I will miss Darlene Conley and her character. She is free to go back to the Source of All and begin the next phase of her soul's journey. Blessings as she goes forward.

President Bush's plan to add 20,000 new soldiers to those already serving means that he has found yet another way to package "stay the course."
At the same time, he keeps up his claim of "spreading democracy around the world." With guns and bombs and fear, that is. Can a people who have been used to dictatorships and colonization accept the idea of democracy practically over night, when after nearly 231 years we haven't found the answer for our own country? I look at all of this today, and relate a personal story about my growing up in a dictatorial household. When I was a child, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood was a show I never missed. Fred Rogers could communicate the most complex topics to children in a way that they understood. I always felt like Mr. Rogers was talking just to me. Underneath that quiet, gentle demeanor was a powerful, persuasive spirit. Fortunately, that power was used for good.
In this video I found on YouTube, Mr. Rogers testifies before Congress on behalf of PBS at a time when the Nixon administration threatened to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Watch what happens.

Happy 2007!
I am looking forward to the great opportunities for change that 2007 holds. Looks like Congress is ready to put the checks and balances back into our government, having already put the smackdown on President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq. Here's the story. My graduation from Baker College is official, and I am looking for a better job. Shoutouts to some high school classmates who found me on MySpace. Oh yeah, and I recorded a new intro and outro.
